PITTSBURGH, PA - On June 15, Renewal, Inc. opened Joey's Place, a new 28-bed licensed recovery house in downtown Pittsburgh designed to provide sober, safe, structured housing for individuals recovering from substance use disorder.

Located at 326 Third Avenue, Joey's Place is in the same building as Renewal's Pathway to Care and Recovery crisis center, its 24/7/365 "front door" for individuals seeking help with Substance Use. Designed with compassion and purpose, Joey's Place provides up to five months of supportive, structured housing for adult men, ages 18 and older, transitioning from inpatient treatment, outpatient care, or reentering the community following hospitalization or incarceration.
The opening comes at a time when communities across Allegheny County continue to face the challenges of substance use and the need for accessible recovery resources, including safe and structured housing.
"Too often, individuals leave treatment without a stable place to continue their recovery," said Douglas Williams, Chief Executive Officer at Renewal, Inc. "Joey's Place helps fill that gap - providing not just housing, but structure, accountability, and a supportive community where individuals can focus on healing, rebuilding their lives, and strengthening their recovery journey."
Joey's Place includes:
- Housing for up to 28 adult men in double-occupancy rooms
- A structured, peer-supported living environment
- Three daily meals and shared responsibilities to build routine and independence
- Access to care management and recovery planning
- A central downtown location with convenient public transportation access
The program honors the legacy of "Joey," a former staff member of the Renewal community whose lived experience with substance use helped shape the organization's approach to care. Joey's story continues to inspire a person-centered model rooted in dignity, compassion, and hope.
To be eligible to enter Joey's Place, individuals must be residents of Allegheny County, medically stable, and engaged in a recovery program.
