AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 16, 2026
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Home Trends & Design (HTD) is proud to announce that its new documentary film, Rooted in Craft, has been awarded "Best Documentary" at the 2026 Austin Spotlight Film Festival. The award was officially presented on September 12, 2026, marking a significant achievement during the festival's special 10-year anniversary season.
Helmed by Richard Gordy, Rooted in Craft takes viewers on a journey into the factories, foundries, and quarries, showing a unique behind-the-scenes look at the process that HTD's handmade furniture goes through before the product is ever shipped to your door. Filmed on location in Rajasthan, India, and in Austin, Texas, this documentary shows a whole different side of the industry that is often never seen.
The Best Documentary recognition, certified by Festival Director Ali Alkhafaji and the rest of the panel, comes as HTD looks to expand the work of its Mango Foundation. Building on more than a decade of planting trees, the foundation's next chapter will introduce new sustainability initiatives, including efforts to test and improve access to clean drinking water in HTD's operating communities.
The Austin Spotlight Film Festival, celebrating a decade of championing independent filmmakers, announced the winners following a weekend of screenings and industry events.
