From August 25 to 27, the 2026 Nanjing Week and China-Central Asia Trade and Cultural Exchange Event was held at the National Library of Kyrgyzstan. Organized by the Nanjing Municipal People's Government and co-hosted by the Information Office of Nanjing Municipal People's Government and the Nanjing International Communication Center, the event brought together representatives from the governments, cultural institutions and publishing sectors of China and Kyrgyzstan for a cross-cultural dialogue spanning the ancient Silk Road.

At the opening ceremony, Weaving Mountains and Rivers Together, a scroll jointly created by intangible cultural heritage (ICH) practitioners from Nanjing and Bishkek, was unveiled. Combining Jiangnan silk and steppe wool through interwoven warp and weft, the work reflects the convergence of diverse civilizations within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The concurrent exhibition, Interwoven Civilizations: A Tapestry of Silk and Felt, focused on stories of family heritage from the two cities, bringing the dialogue between civilizations to life through tangible works of art.
Kyryozbaeva Sanra Asanbaevna, deputy director of the National Library of Kyrgyzstan, expressed hope that Nanjing and Kyrgyzstan would further strengthen cooperation in areas including document preservation and organization, reading promotion, translation and publishing. Gao Chen, director of the Chinese Culture Center in Bishkek, said in his remarks that the event brought Nanjing's rich historical heritage and contemporary vitality and innovation to Bishkek, adding new depth and warmth to people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
On the same day, the China-Kyrgyzstan Cultural Exchange Book Corner was officially inaugurated. A collection of translated classics from China and Kyrgyzstan, including Chingiz Aitmatov: Man and the Universe and Nanjing: City of Literature, was showcased. The results of the China-Kyrgyzstan reciprocal writers' residency program and the first China-Central Asia Youth Three-Line Poetry Competition were also announced.
On August 27, the Nanjing-Central Asia Cultural and Tourism Industry Promotion Conference, themed "Digital Silk Road·Splendid Culture and Tourism," was held alongside the Silk Road Craftsmanship: 2026 Exhibition of Chinese Calligraphy, Painting and Intangible Cultural Heritage in Two Central Asian Cities. The events focused on the development of cultural and tourism resources, smart tourism development and cross-sector integration of ICH.
Featured at the exhibition were exquisite Jiangnan ICH works, including Yunjin brocade, Suzhou embroidery and kesi tapestry, along with calligraphy and paintings by renowned artists from Jiangsu. A themed educational study tour tracing the "Li Bai Poetry Route" was also unveiled, while resources including the China-Central Asia Trade Connectivity Cooperation Platform were promoted. Representatives from China and Kyrgyzstan also exchanged views on the living transmission of ICH and its integration with industry, injecting new digital momentum into Silk Road cooperation.
